Your weekly #GossipAlert round-up: 30 August – 5 September

Now that Love Island is over, we’re back to spilling the tea on the latest scandals and bringing the most newsworthy events to your attention. So, there’s no need to scour the web for hot goss, because we’ve got the best bits right here!

Dame Sarah Storey is now the most successful GB Paralympian

Surpassing swimmer Mike Kenny (who competed between 1976 and 1988), Dame Sarah Storey has taken the top podium position of Great Britain’s most successful Paralympian of all time. After winning the women’s C4-5 road race overnight in Tokyo, the 43-year-old became the first Brit to pick up a 17th gold medal at the Paralympics. Her total medal count is now at a whopping 28, with most of them being a shiny gold.

Prince William, a royal rescuer

The Duke of Cambridge was a true knight in shining armour as he came to the rescue of a trapped Afghan soldier who he knew from his time at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Prince William decided to ensure safe passage for the soldier and his family after hearing their plea to escape the Taliban. The duke asked his equerry naval officer Rob Dixon to contact personnel in the region to assist the soldier and his family to the Kabul airport so they could board a flight to Britain.

ABBA reunites for new music and a new show

In a shocking but delightful turn of events, the biggest-selling pop group has released two new songs for the first time in 40 years ahead of their London tour. Agnetha Fältskog, 71, Björn Ulvaeus, 76, Benny Andersson, 74, and Frida Lyngstad, 75, not only returned to the studio to record their new album Voyage but will also be making a concert comeback with youthful avatars. The 90-minute show, which has been 4½ years in the making, will be staged in a run in East London. The pop group spent five weeks in motion-capture suits in front of 160 cameras and performed 22 songs to look as they did in their 1979 tour.

Here’s what some previous islanders are up to…

Just in case you were missing Love Island as much as we are, we thought we’d give you an update on some familiar Villa faces.

  • Jamie Jewitt and Camilla Thurlow from series 3 have officially tied the knot in a lovely ceremony surrounded by family and celeb pals, after four years since they met on the reality TV show. The famous pair also share a beautiful daughter together.
  • Dani Dyer, winner of series 4 of Love Island, refuses to take her baby boy to see his dad (her now ex) in prison. In case you missed it, said ex Sammy Kimmence was sentenced to three and a half years in jail for defrauding two pensioners out of nearly £34,000. Dani knows he’s got a right to see his son, and doesn’t want to punish him further, but prison is a scary place and she doesn’t want to take Santiago to such a toxic environment.
  • Megan Barton Hanson, another contestant from series 4, has earned herself more than just a pretty penny during lockdown. The 27-year-old reality star has raked in a fortune of almost £500,000 thanks to her exclusive snaps on adult site OnlyFans and her numerous TV and brand deals.

What do you think of ABBA’s reunion or Megan’s massive paycheck? Let us know in the comments below or on our socials. And make sure to come back next week for another instalment of #GossipAlert, we’ll have loads more juicy tidbits for you to lap up.
