Notting Hill Carnival – The big return

Notting Hill Carnival is back with a bang, after taking a 3-year hiatus due to Covid.

What is Notting Hill Carnival?

Notting Hill Carnival is one of the biggest street events in Europe and takes place in West London every Summer Bank Holiday weekend. Millions of people attend every single year! Rooted in Caribbean culture, you can certainly expect to be surrounded by incredible music (there will be around 40 static sound systems), delicious food, iconic parades, colourful costumes, plenty of good vibes and hopefully some sunshine.

History of Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival first took place officially in 1966, with the aim to improve race relations and ease community unrest in the local area, especially after the effects of the Notting Hill Race Riots in 1958 and the racially motivated murder of Kelso Cochrane in 1959.
Embracing and supporting cultural unity, every single year Londoners see a massive turnout for the Notting Hill Carnival, with a wide range of people from different backgrounds and cultures all coming together to celebrate.
