UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 has kicked off!
Get your flags and your face paint ready because the Women’s Euro 2022 is in full swing, and it just might be the biggest women’s sports event EVER! The tournament runs throughout the month, with the excitement culminating in a thrilling showdown on 31st July for the Final at Wembley, the home of football.

Who are the favourites?
The Spanish team are a real force this year and have been dubbed firm favourites to lift the trophy. However, as every football fan knows, anything can happen out there on the pitch.
England are the second favourites to win, and they’ve got an impressive squad jam-packed with talent and potential game-changers. Plus, as they are the tournament hosts, it’s sure to bring some extra fire to their footy.
The Netherlands are the tournament’s defending champions, and even though they lost their Head Coach to England, the Oranje will certainly put up a determined title defence.
Players to keep an eye on
Lauren Hemp – England:
If England are to go all the way, then their deadly dribbling winger will certainly have a part to play. No stranger to scoring jaw-dropping goals, we could see some special moments coming from her this month.
Demi Vance – Northern Ireland:
Still basking in the glory of Rangers’ Scottish Women’s Premier League title, her wicked left foot strikes fear into any goalkeeper. Boasting sublime technical ability and no fear in a tackle, she has the talent to turn any game around.
Vivianne Miedema – Netherlands:
When the Netherlands won the previous Women’s Euros, she was nothing short of unstoppable. Scoring once in both Quarter-Final and Semi-Final matches and netting twice in the Final – this Dutch goal machine has the potential to light up the tournament.
How are the UK teams doing?
England got off to a flying start and have secured two wins in their two opening games, scoring nine without conceding a single goal – wowzers! Will they be able to go all the way to the Final? There’s still a lot of footy to be played, but they’re looking good out there.
Back-to-back defeats for Northern Ireland have scuppered their chance to advance, however, the strides this team have made over the last two years deserves a round of applause. This may have been their very first appearance at a Women’s Euro, but it definitely won’t be their last.
Tonight’s fiery fixture
England started their tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Austria, followed by an 8-0 drubbing of Norway – but tonight they face a plucky Northern Ireland team. The girls in green are making a historic first appearance at Euro 2022, but the England team know that you can never underestimate underdogs at tournaments like these.
After a quick look into our crystal ball, we think Northern Ireland will put up a good fight, but England’s big-name players will be too much for them to handle. 4-1 to England!
