Mecca and Carers Trust: how we’re helping

Here at Mecca Bingo, we’ve been working with Carers Trust for six years, a wonderful charity that helps those who look after the most vulnerable in our society.

Now more than ever, we need to come together as a nation and a community to help and support each other. These are tough times, but with generosity and kindness we know we’ll make it through and see good times again.

With that in mind, we thought we’d tell you a little more about Carers Trust and how you can get involved. This is a charity very close to our hearts, as we know many people in the Mecca community are carers.

Who is Carers Trust?

Established in 2012, Carers Trust aims to improve the support and recognition of anyone caring – unpaid – for a loved one, as well as providing access to services to help them in their day-to-day lives.

They do this in all sorts of ways. From working partners around the country to provide replacement care, to providing grants to help carers have a life of their own. They also have a wealth of advice, information and emotional support that carers can access.

To find out more about the wonderful work the charity does, or to reach out for help and advice if you are a carer yourself, visit the Carers Trust website.

How we’ve helped

We first got involved with Carers Trust back in February 2014, and we’ve been proud to work with them ever since. And we’re even prouder to say that we’ve raised a whopping £2.5 million so far!

Over the years we’ve done all sorts to raise money, from bake sales (yum!) to marathons (less yum), to charity sky dives (no thanks!)

And it’s all be for a wonderful cause – we’ve helped support over 11,000 carers in the last six years, with money raised going to social events for carers, household equipment, education and much more.

This wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated staff and, of course, our wonderful players. Whether that’s in our local clubs or through money raised by those playing bingo online. So, thank you!

How you can keep helping

The work of Carers Trust is now more vital than ever, and any money raised goes a long way. Just £15 can fund weekly phone calls to isolated carers, while £75 could help with transport costs to deliver food, medication and other essentials to someone self-isolating.

And with so many carers feeling alone at the moment, £100 can help set up a virtual group for carers to join and have a well-earned break, while getting emotional support from those in the same boat.

Our fundraising target for this year is over £400,000, and there are plenty of ways you can help us reach that goal.
