Are you named after Neighbours?
Mecca Bingo offers free games for those named Scott or Charlene
Mecca Bingo is celebrating the end of an era this Friday, as the long running Australian soap opera Neighbours says a fond farewell to viewers after 37 years on air. For one day only, Mecca clubs across the country are inviting anyone who shares their first name with the soap’s most iconic characters, Scott and Charlene – famously played by Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan – to head to their local club, where they will be treated to a free main game of bingo and the chance to win big.
All customers will have to do is say ‘g’day’ to the Mecca team and present a form of photo ID, which confirms their first name is Scott or Charlene, to claim their free game and be in with the chance of winning one of the many cash prizes.
Scott and Charlene were a firm fixture on Ramsay Street when the show first came to prominence in the UK, back in the 80s. Viewers watched avidly as their romance blossomed onscreen before their fairy-tale wedding, which was watched by 20 million BBC viewers in 1988.
The show moved to Channel 5 but has continued to occupy a place in the hearts of UK fans. Despite its cult following, the iconic theme tune will be heard for the last time on Friday evening.
“Like bingo, Neighbours has been a popular staple of British culture, bringing a ray of sunshine to our screens for decades. Alongside gripping storylines and memorable characters, it’s given us Hollywood stars and chart topping hits, so what better way to mark the end of this era than treating namesakes of the two most well-known characters to a free game of bingo.”
Carol Rhead from Mecca Bingo commented
This offer runs across all 70 of Mecca’s clubs nationwide this Friday 29th July. It entitles anyone over 18 with the first name Scott or Charlene (confirmed with photo ID) to a free main game, afternoon or evening session.
