Veganuary 2022 – restaurants that serve the best vegan food

If you haven’t heard of Veganuary before, let us explain. It’s the term used for choosing to eat only a vegan diet during the month of January, a bit like giving up chocolate for lent. Eating a vegan diet means choosing not to eat or drink anything that is made from animal products, this includes meat, fish, dairy, and eggs. Many vegans even choose not to eat honey as this is made by bees. Following a vegan diet has been tricky in the past but with so many supermarkets and restaurants offering a variety of vegan options, it can be so easy! We’ve put together a guide of some of the options available at the nation’s favourite restaurants this January. Enjoy!

Pizza Express

Pizza Express is a high street staple and they’ve had vegan options on the menu for a few years now. So, no surprise they’ve pulled out all the stops this Veganuary with multiple options for starters, mains, and desserts! Pizza Express is famous for its dough balls so the vegan version is a must-try, served with a choice of houmous or spicy tomato harissa. For main, there are so many to choose from, but we think the American Jack looks too good to pass up, with smoky vegan jackfruit ‘pepperoni’, tomato sauce and vegan mozzarella.

Giraffe

At Giraffe vegans have no reason to feel left out with the choice to go vegan on their Japanese Katsu Curry and Hoisin duck noodle salad. You can also swap the chicken for banana blossom in their Korean BBQ Chicken dish, this comes with chargrilled pineapple, grated carrots, slaw, and spring onion. On the burger menu you can also try the Southern Chicken-less Burger, filled with breaded vegan chicken tenders, garlic siracha, pickled pink onions, pomegranate seeds and vegan mayo. If you’ve got room for dessert, why not try their vegan apple crumble served with vegan vanilla ice cream.

TGI Fridays

Everyone loves a visit to Fridays and luckily, they’ve also hopped on the vegan train this January. They’ve made a version of their classic loaded skins, filled with BBQ beans! They’ve also added a fully vegan burger to the menu filled with a plant-based patty, mushroom, smoked vegan cheese, and even a truffle and garlic vegan aioli! Our mouths are already watering.

Wagamama

Wagamama have come through with a sensational vegan offering this January. Their vegan menu is leading the way when it comes to creating replacements for our favourite animal products. The standouts we must mention are the following, the Vegan Chilli ‘Squid’ made from lightly battered pulled king oyster mushrooms and served with a sticky dipping sauce. From the main menu the Tempura-Fish + Bang Bang Yaki Imo, this clever creation is a Japanese twist on the classic British fish and chips featuring a tempura-battered vegan ‘fish’ with spicy bang bang sweet potato chunks and minty edamame squash, served with katsu curry sauce and Waga tartare. They’ve even created a vegan egg to go with the No Duck donburi!

All Bar One

Everyone’s favourite spot for a cocktail but they also serve delicious food. From the tapas menu we love the sound of the Crispy Mushrooms, these come in a tempura batter with Som Tam dipping sauce. The menu also includes a vegan version of their classic nachos with spicy chickpeas, smashed avocado, dairy free cheese and tomato salsa. Great options to share with friends!

Zizzi

Zizzi also have some great vegan dishes to try on the menu this January, including two desserts that really have the wow factor. Choose from either the Zillionaire’s Slice, featuring a chocolate chip cookie base, topped with layers of salted toffee and coconut ganache. Or try the Coconut, Raspberry and Choc Slice, filled with creamy coconut and raspberry on a chocolate biscuit base, served with coconut popcorn and strawberry sorbet. Or better yet – just order both!

It’s safe to say you won’t go hungry if you decide to try Veganuary this year. Let us know in the comments if you get to try any of these dishes or if there’s any you think we’ve missed.
